ENACTUS is more than just another student organization to add on campus. It's a professionally rewarding experience that will make a difference in the lives of students and reflect positively on our university.

Enactus has started its chapter in IIT INDORE in October 2014. Since , then we are working sincerely towards bringing a substantial change in the society. We have always associated our mother's cooking as an act of love. So, when ENACTUS Indore found out that women of the house hold risk their lives for a simple loving act of cooking, we knew it was time to act. Primitive stoves used by these households are extremely inefficient, burning large amount of fire wood as well as producing huge quantities of disease causing smoke. Enough smoke to cause diseases like asthma, heart problem, cancer, tuberculosis and even death.

Project AANCH at IIT Indore

Around 3 billion people cook and heat their homes using solid fuels (i.e. wood, charcoal, coal, dung, crop wastes) on open fires or traditional stoves. Such inefficient cooking and heating practices produce high levels of household (indoor) air pollution which includes a range of health damaging pollutants such as fine particles and carbon monoxide.

In poorly ventilated dwellings, smoke in and around the home can exceed acceptable levels for fine particles 100-fold. Exposure is particularly high among women and young children, who spend the most time near the domestic hearth.

According to WHO, 4.3 million people a year die from the exposure to household air pollution.

This made us to think in the direction to provide people in INDORE with a smokeless stove which is more efficient, less hazardous and affordable to the people. We have formally collaborated with IITD who have already done a lot in this aspect and started PROJECT AANCH in our college.

Since then we, Enactus IITI has been working in this direction. We are in the process of assessing a community which we are gonna work for and a suitable and sustainable model for that community. This reduces the indoor air pollution and rescues the women from diseases caused by the polluted air.
